Early pace was set by George Russell in his Mercedes, clocking a 1:11.188 on hard tires. Reigning champion Max Verstappen followed closely behind, along with Carlos Sainz in the Williams and the two Ferraris. And this is the part most people miss... Ferrari had a relatively quiet session, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton focusing on hard-tire runs. They finished in P18 and P19, respectively, ahead of only Tsunoda. Hamilton even had a spin at Mergulho in the closing stages, further disrupting their program. This raises the question: Are Ferrari deliberately downplaying their performance, or are they genuinely struggling to find the optimal setup for Interlagos?
Now, the teams will analyze the data collected during FP1 and make necessary adjustments to their cars before Sprint Qualifying. The stage is set for an action-packed weekend.
