A terrifying crash at a celebrity motorcycle event has left a former MotoGP rider determined to make a comeback. Mattia Pasini, a seasoned Moto2 veteran and former MotoGP participant, found himself in a frightening situation at Valentino Rossi's prestigious 100Km of Champions race. This annual dirt track contest, hosted at Rossi's VR46 Ranch, attracts top racers from various motorcycle disciplines.
But the 2025 edition took a dramatic turn for Pasini on November 28th. A collision with 2014 Moto2 champion Tito Rabat resulted in a high-speed crash that knocked Pasini unconscious. The impact was severe, but he considers himself fortunate to have escaped without any life-threatening injuries.
In a candid interview with GPOne, Pasini recounted the incident. He admitted, 'I bit the dust hard,' acknowledging the inherent risks of flat track racing. The collision occurred as Pasini was drafting behind Rabat's bike, which suddenly stood up as Rabat accelerated out of the oval, causing Pasini's front wheel to be swept out from under him.
Pasini was quick to absolve Rabat of any blame, attributing the accident to bad luck. He praised the swift response of Dr. Berardi and Dr. Lucidi, who he affectionately calls his 'guardian angels.' They arranged for his swift transport to a hospital via helicopter, a first for Pasini, where he underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation.
Upon regaining consciousness, Pasini was greeted by the relieved yet concerned Rossi. He assured Rossi that he would return for the next edition of the race, despite having to withdraw from the main event due to his injuries, which included bruising and affected blood vessels above his buttocks.
The 100Km of Champions event concluded with Pecco Bagnaia and Augusto Fernandez claiming victory in the main race. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the fine line between thrill and danger in motorcycle racing, leaving fans eager to see Pasini's promised comeback.
