Trump's appearance on the show comes just a few months after he settled a lawsuit with CBS, the network behind '60 Minutes'. The lawsuit, which accused the network of 'election interference', was a result of a similar editing controversy during an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump argued that the network's decision to air a shortened version of the interview amounted to interference in the 2024 presidential election.
The settlement, worth $16 million, was seen by many as a strategic move by CBS's parent company, Paramount, to smooth the way for a merger with Skydance. The previous season high was 11.1 million viewers, and this latest edition followed a heavily watched NFL game, which itself drew an impressive audience of 30.84 million viewers.
CBS also boasts an impressive social media reach, with the '60 Minutes' show accumulating 144.9 million viewers across its various social platforms.
